Rafa Takes Title Crown
Rafael Nadal finally stole Roger Federer's five times Wimbledon crown in an epic 5 set performance on Centre Court yesterday. In what is being hailed as the best finals match in its history - and certainly the longest Wimbledon's Men's Final after 4 hours 48 minutes - the Spaniard brought the nail-biter to a close with a final score of 6-4; 6-4; 7-6; 7-6; 9-7.
Venus Williams beat younger sister Serena to win her fifth Grand Slam final. It was the sixth time the sisters had met each other in a Grand Slam final and 28-year-old Venus beat Serena 7-5; 6-4 in a blustery match on Saturday. Hours after their face-to-face final, Serena and Venus were back side-by-side on Centre Court to beat Lisa Raymond and Sam Stosur in the Women's Doubles Finals. In what was their third Wimbledon doubles' title, the Williams sisters won 6-2; 6-2.
Laura Robson became the first Briton to win a Girls' Singles title since Annabel Croft 24 years ago when she stormed to victory in the Wimbledon final on Saturday. Laura, 14, from London, beat the Thai third seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn 6-3; 3-6; 6-1.
Bob Bryan and Samantha Stosur - both unseeded - won the Mixed Doubles' Final yesterday. Bob and Sam, pitted again Bob's identical twin Mike and Katerina Srebotnik, won 7-5; 6-4 after 61 minutes of play. The match - delayed due to the rain - finally began at 20.33 yesterday.
Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic won their first Grand Slam title beating Jonas Bjorkman and Kevin Ullyett in the Men's Doubles Final with a final score of 7-6; 6-7; 6-3; 6-2.
Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov took the Boys' Singles Title against Finnish rival Henri Kontinen 7-5; 6-3 in this year's final.
